Well, I had another couple of bad spells last night (of course, we had some bad weather too) with the pain. I thought I could get away with not taking any pain meds (because they taste so bad), but it didn't work. I was up after an hour or so and feeling pretty lousy. I forced down the meds and made it back to bed before nausea took over. It was really a weird feeling: I could tell when the pain meds kicked in this time. It was like a warmness, melting over my jaw from top to bottom. I also could feel the drowsiness from the meds kick in as well. Actaully a pleasant feeling. Unfortunately, they wore off and I needed another dose earlier this morning. The power had gone out so I was fubmling around with a flashlight trying to locate everything, all while trying not to trip over the dogs and bang my JAW on something! Alas.
Anyway, Becky and Kathy took off for work this morning and I downed one more dose of the meds and layed in bed to feel them kick in. Again, it was a pleasant sensation. I just layed there until I felt the drowsiness wear off. I got up and forced myself to drink down a SlimFast (if I don't force it, I won't do it and I'll end up like yesterday). I took a good shower afterwards and then took these pictures.
I'm hoping my nose isn't going to be distorted like that forever. That permanent smudge you see on the left side of my face from the front is actaully a stretch mark from the surgery, something else I hope clears up soon. Also, you can see the outside stitches fairly well in one of these and I think you can start to see some discoloration. I'm also hoping that won't get too bad. I haven't shaved yet, obviously, because Dr. Philippe told me not too. There was a call on our answering machine from sometime this morning while I was out from Dr. Hiller, my orthodontist, just wanting to checkup and see how things were.
I also have a little treat for you all today!. I actually received this gift a few days ago, but am just now getting around to getting it posted here. Dan Ropers sent me a neat little gift, that you can see below,
along with the following letter:
Brian, I thought you could use a little extra dose of "the force" with your up-coming surgery! I figured there was no better way to get the force to your jaw than by having a StarWars toothbrush. Use it wisely, for as the power of the force can heal, it is also a path to the DarkSide! Good luck with your surgery, and remember - as Han Solo found out with hibernation sickness, your senses will return in time after surgery. May the Force be with You. Let me know how everything goes.... Love, Dan |
I loved it! Thanks so much Dan, and I hope you don't mind me sharing all this with the world. I haven't used it (and probably won't), but I'm using my own lightsab... er, toothbrush to keep things clean!
